The morning started with complimentary bacon, eggs, and coffee at the Crown and Cushion before heading out of Windsor towards Oxford. I adjusted quickly to the time change and had no trouble getting to sleep last night and waking up at a normal time this morning. I was out on my bike around 9:00 and knew if all went to plan I would get to Oxford right around my 2:00 check in time at the next hotel.
The ride today was characterized by perfectly good views obstructed by perfectly trimmed hedges for much of the way. Every so often I’d catch a quick glimpse of the countryside through a well placed gap but otherwise just enjoyed listening to the birds chirping and winding my way through some narrow single lane roads. My legs felt good and the ride felt relatively flat despite nearly 1,800 feet of elevation gain.

After about 30 miles I took a break at The Boat House in Wallingford for a quick snack. I accidentally ordered the largest plate of chicken tenders I’ve ever seen and ate as much as I could while enjoying the view.
Another 16 miles and I had made it to Oxford. I’m staying at The Buttery Hotel tonight which is just a couple of blocks from the university. After taking a quick shower, I headed out to enjoy a walk through Oxford. I thought I might be able to catch one of the last tours of the day, but due to a bank holiday there were a ton of tourists in town and all of the tours were sold out. After a self guided walk I instead made my way to the Turf Tavern for a couple of beers. The Turf Tavern has been open since 1381 and I was one of the few people that didn’t have to duck when ordering a beer due to the ceiling height. Because it was Sunday, I felt obligated to order the Sunday Roast for dinner which didn’t disappoint.

Love a sunday roast! Glad the riding trip is off to a good start, full of protein 😛
