UK Day 1: 2 Miles

Slough, England to Windsor, England

If there were ever a reason to celebrate a two mile bike ride, today was it. Most of my anxiety leading up to this trip was about getting my bike to Heathrow in one piece and assembling it without any issues. I landed around 12:30 PM and had the bike built and on a train to Windsor by 2:00 PM. Things couldn’t have gone more smoothly.

The train dropped me off in Slough, and it was an easy two mile ride to the Crown and Cushion Inn in Eton, where I’m staying tonight. It’s essentially a pub with modest rooms above, but it’s in a great location just across the River Thames from Windsor Castle. They were able to store my bike in a secure spot, which was helpful since the stairs in this 600-year-old building are too narrow to carry it up to my room. I’ve also got a full English breakfast included tomorrow morning, which will be a nice way to start the day.

After checking in, I dropped my bags and headed toward the Long Walk, which offered great views of the castle and some nice scenery. With rain starting to come down, I ducked into a brewery before heading back to my room. I’ll find something convenient for dinner tonight, and then it’s off to Oxford in the morning.
