We’re going on another adventure!
This is either the long-awaited final chapter in a trilogy of bike tours or Europe Part II (no subtitles necessary this time), but either way I’m very excited to get back out on the road for a ride across England and Scotland.
I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on my trips across the U.S. and Europe and what I wanted out of this next trip. The Trans Am was about wide open landscapes, building an unexpected community of like-minded cyclists, and a singular purpose of crossing a continent. Europe was about immersing myself in new cultures, food, and sightseeing. This ride across the UK feels like it could be the best of both: crossing an island instead of a continent, with plenty of history along the way and some incredible scenery. I’m especially looking forward to the Lake District, the Scottish Highlands, and a bit of scotch tasting.
This is the first time I’ve planned a long trip that isn’t open-ended. My plan is less spontaneous than prior trips with hotels already booked at each stop. There are a few long days in the saddle, but after living in Colorado for the last 4 years a trip mostly at sea level will be a nice treat.
Route
The route I’ll be taking is a shortened version of a LEJOG route. The typical Land’s End to John O’Groats route takes cyclists from the southern most point in the UK to the northern most point. To fit this trip within my 2 week time frame, I modified the route to take me from Windsor Castle to Inverness.
Cheers to another adventure!
