Worcester, England to Nantwich, England
I opted for a 0 mile day today. After covering 110 miles over the last 2 days my legs were feeling tired. The 10% grade climb took more out of me than I had realized yesterday. I’ve also been moving non-stop since I left Denver on Friday and thought a relaxed day would set me up better for success in the upcoming days.
I always forget that a cycling trip requires several days to acclimate to. Being on a bike everyday is both a physical and mental challenge. When I rode across the U.S. it took me almost two weeks before I was enjoying myself. I’ve since been able to acclimate more quickly, but a 60+ mile day with a fully loaded bike is much more challenging than my normal rides around Colorado.
The nice thing about this trip is I have a backup plan to get from point A to point B almost everyday. That flexibility is a really nice benefit to traveling in the UK. I slept in this morning, then walked from the hotel into town for a full English breakfast and a latte. I don’t usually eat breakfast and if I do it tends to be more sweet than savory, but I really enjoyed the meal.

After breakfast I gathered my bike from the hotel and made my way to the train station. The train from Worcester took me to Hereford where I connected to a train to Nantwich where I’ll start tomorrow’s ride.
Nantwich is a fairly small town, but my accomodations for the night seem good. I’ve stayed at a few pubs with hotels above, which have been interesting. The stairs at the Crown in Nantwich look like an M.C. Escher painting. The building is over 500 years old, but the room is fine for the night. I found a pub to relax with a couple beers and grabbed dinner to end the night.
