Day 56: 33 Miles

Moran, WY to Moose, WY

I got a great night of sleep in the teepee last night. There were some mosquitoes, but I just set up my tent as a bug netting. The mattress on the bed was one of the more comfortable I’ve slept on during this trip. I didn’t set an alarm last night because it was supposed to rain in the morning again. The storms started right around 6:45 and were done just before 8:00. While I waited for the rain to stop I grabbed a breakfast burrito and some coffee at the restaurant just feet away from the teepee

I rode with Mike again today for the first 12 miles of the day. He was continuing on through Yellowstone while I went through Grand Teton National Park to head towards my cousin’s house outside of Jackson, WY. We got to the 12 mile mark and Mike and I said our goodbyes. I got Mike’s contact information, but I will probably not catch up to him after taking my break. He was a great guy to ride with and definitely got me through the hail storm yesterday.

The ride through Grand Teton National Park was stunning. I only had 20 miles of riding in the park, but found I was stopping every couple of miles to take a picture. I will let the pictures speak for themselves, but the ride through the park to the Moose Visitor Center was spectacular.

I got to the visitor center and my cousin Adam found me standing by the bike rack. We loaded up my bike onto his Jeep and took a short ride to his beautiful house which overlooks the ski resort. The only drawback of the teepee last night was that I did not get a shower, so when I got to Adam’s house I cleaned myself up and also did a load of laundry. I hadn’t washed any clothes since Breckenridge, so it was time to clean a few things.

A couple of hours later my brother Greg arrived at Adam’s house. He flew in from NYC today and will be staying until July 3rd when I get back on the road. We drove into town together and met Adam at the local farmer’s market where we picked up some food for dinner. Greg and I stopped at a bar for a couple of beers and the liquor store for some beer and whiskey before heading back to Adam’s house for dinner.

We don’t have any definite plans for the next few days but I’m happy to get off the bike for a few days and recharge.
