Europe Day 17: 0 Miles

Basel, Switzerland

Today was a rest day spent enjoying great weather with friends. We took a nice walk through Basel stopping at a few different spots for drinks and food along the way.

The day started with a trip to the bakery around the corner for some breakfast pastries. We then hung out in the apartment playing a game called “Joking Hazard” which was a fun way to kill some time in the morning. Brice made barbeque chicken and pasta for lunch and then I headed out with Brice and Ines to walk around town.

We walked to the river and sat outside getting some sun and splitting a bottle or rosé. Once the bottle of wine was finished, we all decided we had gotten enough sun and moved to a spot where we could sit outside under some shade and have another couple of drinks. We played another card game called “Coup” which I also enjoyed a lot.

For dinner we decided to go to a food hall but stopped at one last bar for a final outdoor drink. It was the perfect day to be sitting outside casually drinking a few beers. The food hall had a great selection of food and had a bar with a ton of great beer options on tap. I picked a sour IPA to have with chicken pad thai which were both great.

After dinner we walked back to Brice and Ines’s apartment completing a 4 mile loop around the city. The city seemed very quiet today, probably because people are out of town due to the holiday. It was great to spend time with Brice and Ines and walk around Basel with them.

Tomorrow I’ll be back on the bike heading towards Strasbourg, France. It will be a long ride but there are no hills and the entire ride trends downhill so I’m hoping for an easy day.
