Day 18: 43 Miles

Mason, OH to Lawrenceburg, IN

This is going to be a quick post today. Not much to report from today’s ride. I knew the weather was not going to be great this morning, so I scheduled a short ride and slept in today. This also meant I got to enjoy the bar a little longer last night. The bar I was at had a strange vibe to it. By 11:00 there was a bachelor party on their way to being very drunk, a bunch of 4 year old girls dancing on the dance floor, and a DJ playing music wildly inappropriate for those children to be dancing to. I guess it was take your kid to the bar night? I’m not sure what was going on, but I did get to try some new beers from Rhinegeist, a brewery based in Cincinnati, so that made the trip to the bar worth it.

I got on the road this morning around 10:45. The plan was to ride over to a bike store about 6 miles away and pick up some more spare tubes. I now had one spare, but after yesterday I thought it would be better to have more than one. I’ve got a patch kit, but it’s sometimes easier to switch out tubes on the road and try to patch when the day is over. Of course, I got half a mile from the bike store and my rear tire got a flat. Another piece of glass sticking through the tire. I got to the bike store at 11:15, but they didn’t open until noon so I had to wait. I was out of the store quickly after the store opened with everything sorted out. By now it was lunch time so I started to keep my eyes open for something appealing. A few miles down the road I spotted a Chipotle and since I had a gift card (Thanks for lunch Liz!) I stopped in and grabbed a burrito.

Once back on the road it was just 32 miles to where I’d be stopping today. Mostly through small towns and the outer suburbs of Cincinnati. The riding wasn’t hard, but I never really got into a rhythm today. About 3 miles from my destination I crossed into Indiana, state number 6 on this journey. I’ll only be in Indiana for a day. Tomorrow I’ll be riding into Kentucky and hopefully camping out in a spot that isn’t too far out from Louisville.

    1. Thanks Rudy. It’s been a fun and interesting trip so far. Just trying to make some forward progress each day and now I’m already in Kentucky.

  1. Dan,
Thanks for taking time to speak with me along the way. It is obvious to see that you have what it takes to complete your journey to Oregon. God’s blessing and my prayer for you along the way.
